Installing and Using Cable Wire Connectors
what you'll need
- Wire stripper
- Electrical tape
- Lineman's pliers
- Analog multimeter
When the time of installing and using cable wire connectors comes, it may seem that there is a whole world to learn. But, by following these common examples and easy procedures, you will be able to handle the situation with no issues. At the electronics store, you can find a whole spectrum of wire connectors to choose from, each catering for your specific wiring needs.
Step 1 - Choose the Right Cable Wire Connector
Here is where you will find thousands of models of cable wire connectors available, depending on many factors and also brands. You should use one that is going to fit the appliance, device, circuit or anything else that needs a cable connector. If not, the wire could get loose and also it couldn’t be attached to the shape of it. A wire connector, no matter the shape, always has a spot where you can attach the cable. This place is very easy to notice, as it allows space for the installation.
Step 2 - CPU Wire Connectors
They're included here because they accomplish the same task, but with a totally different shape and material. If you wanted to know more examples of connectors, the ones for the CPU come in an extensive variety. It mainly depends on the device you want to add. The printer has a different one than monitor. But, in this case if one doesn’t work well, it is better to have it replaced by an authorized technician, since it's very uncommon that you could fix it again.
Step 3 - Coaxial Cable
This is the most common cable you will work with. The tips here also apply if you watch the connection process carefully. It is a very trustful electrical cable and is protected outside by a plastic shield that covers the inner conductor pretty well. Its job is to conduct AC electric current for every location it supports. Picture it as a waveguide.
Step 4 - Strip the Wire
Hold the wire firmly and use the wire stripper to give shape to the part that is going to enter the body of the cable connector. Make sure you don’t cut more than is needed, because whatever you might be using won’t work. If you mess up the wire end, cut the whole part and start over. Do not try this many times because you will eventually run out of cable.
Step 5 - Put the Wire and the Connector Together
When you have the right shape, twist the wires many times to make just a single line of it. With the end, make a little circle. This will be attached to the connector, making the right contact. Do not apply too much force, because you will ruin the cable. Some cables are not that resistant, so try to do this procedure gently but firmly. Use this method is when you have to repair or replace a cable for the TV, computer, radio and many other devices that transmit signals.
Step 6 - Testing if it Works
To finish and test that your job is well done, you can use the analog multimeter to troubleshoot for any electrical problems. So, don’t put everything back on its place when you finish connecting cables. Always check every section just to make sure there is a steady flow of electrical current.
