A fine-looking, modern vanity can uplift the overall outlook of your bathroom. You can install a modern bathroom vanity yourself, with careful planning and preparation.
Step 1 –Disconnecting the Water Lines
If you have an old bathroom vanity, you must remove this first to install the new modern bathroom vanity. The first step is turning off the water at the mains. Then, turn on the faucet and the rest of the water will also flow out. After that, use your adjustable wrench to disconnect the water lines from the sink drain and faucet. Then, remove the faucet also, using the wrench.
Step 2 – Removing the Bathroom Vanity Countertop
The next thing to do is remove the bathroom vanity countertop. To do this, remove the screws that are located at the corners of the countertop. But, the vanity may not come out easily, as it is fixed with adhesive. You can use a pry bar to get it out. Now, you can take out the screws from the back panel of the bathroom vanity, to remove it from the wall.
Step 3 – Checking the Floor and Wall for Any Damage
Once you have removed the old vanity, check the floor and wall for any damage. The usual problems will be rotting or dampness on the wall or floor. If there is any damage, fix the problem straightaway, instead of waiting until it turns into a bigger issue.
Step 4 – Measuring and Cutting for Pipes
Using the measuring tape, measure the width of the pipe and mark it on the back of the modern bathroom vanity. Drill a hole anywhere on the marked line, using the hammer drill. Slide the jigsaw blade inside and cut along the marked line. Make sure the pipes slide through the holes easily.
Step 5 – Find the Studs on the Wall
To screw the modern bathroom vanity to the wall, you need to know exactly where the studs are. A stud finder can help you with this. Place the stud finder on the wall and mark the stud positions.
Step 6 – Check the Floor Levels
Now, you can place the vanity in its place and check whether it is sitting comfortably against the wall. Also, check the floor levels. If the floor is not level, you can place some shims under the bathroom vanity.
Step 7 – Install the Faucet
For most modern bathroom vanity, the faucet needs to be fixed in place before the vanity is screwed to the wall. If this is the case, you can fix the faucet using silicone.
Step 8 – Fix the Vanity On To the Wall
Now, you can screw the vanity on to the wall. Finally, spread some adhesive on all four sides of the vanity and place the countertop on it and screw it in place. Reconnect all the plumbing lines and your modern bathroom vanity is ready to use.
