Installing Sliding Glass Dog Doors

There are some varying styles of sliding glass dog doors that you can install in your home. Providing access for your dog on the back of your home so that they can come in and go out at will is a great way to save time and energy taking the dog in and out of the house. If you have a fenced yard and a good area for your dog to enjoy being outside, a dog door is a wonderful addition to your home.

Getting Started on the Installation
To get started on your sliding glass dog doors you will need a few things. The first thing that you should get is a patio dog door that can be installed on your back wall. The glass dog door is available to give the dog door some style and elegance for your home. One of the benefits of having a glass door for your dog door is that the dog can look outside to determine if he wants to go out.

Buy the patio door, metal screws and a screwdriver to get started on the installation of your dog door.

Buy the Door
When buying the dog door for your pet, make sure that the door is big enough for your larger animal to pass through without getting stuck. If you have a small dog, you should not have a problem finding a good size dog door. The larger dog will need something that is a bit bigger to accommodate his size.

Put the Door in Place
You should put your dog door in place and make sure that it is tight against the frame of the door. Make sure that the dog door is within bounds of your existing door frame. Secure the door in place with the metal screws. You can also use a spring loaded door to make it easier for the dog to open it and the door to close when the dog has passed through.

The dog door can be secured with the lock that is on your existing slider. This will ensure that the door remains closed from the outside. There are a number of varieties of dog doors on the market. Make sure that you choose the one that will work best for your dog and door.

The dog door should not allow someone outside of your home to have access to the house when you are not at home. The dog door should be designed for the use of the dog only. Make sure that you choose one that has safety features that will keep everyone else out of your dog door.

The door should also be safe for the dog to pass through. A spring loaded door should not close prematurely on the dog or cause the dog to have to push too hard to get through the door. The door that you choose for your dog will allow your pet the freedom to go outside whenever he chooses. Keep in mind that you should still enclose the dog in a fenced yard to protect the dog and your neighbors.
