Is a forced air electric furnace more efficient than a gas furnace?

by DoItYourself Staff

A forced air electric furnace is a bit more efficient than its gas counterpart. This type of furnace takes less energy to heat up a room because more of the energy is used to heat the room rather than being expended unnecessarily producing by-products, such as a flame. Therefore, a forced air electric furnace will save you money on fuel costs. Electricity is clean to use, while burning gas creates by-products, which must be vented outside correctly for health and safety reasons. Therefore, by using a forced air electric furnace, you will omit the need to constantly operate an air circulation or vent system. Electric furnaces also do not require much maintenance, while gas furnaces require the vents to be maintained and the inside of the furnace to be cleaned to make them more efficient.
