Is a wicker or cedar porch swing easier to maintain?

by DoItYourself Staff

A cedar porch swing is probably more durable and long lasting than a wicker porch swing, but by most counts the wicker one is easier to maintain. A wicker porch swing is resistant to the weather because the resin coatings makes the water bead up and roll off when it rains. You also only have to run a cloth over a wicker swing to clean it, while the cedar one requires things like furniture polish to keep it looking nice. Both have good reasons to purchase them and have good features, such as cedar being naturally insect repellent, and wicker is lightweight and easy to move around.
