Is it difficult to replace my exterior door molding?

by DoItYourself Staff

Replacing exterior door molding is usually an easy job. To remove the existing side molding pieces, simply pry them loose and use them as templates for the new molding. You will also have to replace the header piece that joins them. Next, measure the molding lengths you will need for the sides, and cut them to length with a table saw. You will also need 2 45-degree cuts at the tops for the crown, or header piece. Next, make the header piece out of a short length of molding, remembering to make 45-degree cuts, so that it fits the molding properly. Finally, nail the new side and header moldings in place.
