Is it safe to bury an MC cable?

by DoItYourself Staff

An MC cable or metal clad cable can be used for concrete as well as direct burial purposes, provided it has been identified as appropriate for underground applications. As per the Article 330.10 (A)(11) of the NEC (National Electric Code), an MC cable attached with a moisture-resistant covering can be used for direct burial in wet locations—a prime example for which is aluminum MC cable enclosed within a PVC jacket. However, the Article 330.12 of the NEC states that an MC Cable without proper metallic sheathing can not be used for direct burial, especially in areas that are prone to certain harsh corrosive conditions.
