Is it safe to light the pilot light with a gas lighter?

by DoItYourself Staff

Yes, it is safe to light a pilot light with a gas lighter. First of all, make sure that your hands or clothes are not in contact with the burner. Then, turn the burner knob to the ‘pilot’ position. Now, keeping the knob in that position, light the pilot light using a gas lighter. After that, you can turn the burner knob to the ‘on’ position and adjust the flame as you like. If you are trying to relight the pilot light, before turning the knob to the pilot position, wait for some time until the gas smell goes away. If you follow these instructions, it is safe to light a pilot light using gas lighter.
