For seldom-used fireplaces, all it takes to clean the stained glass screen is a soft, dry cloth. However, if a layer of dust has accumulated, it may be necessary to dampen the cloth lightly with plain water first.
Stained glass fireplace screens that are exposed to heavy use or those that have never or rarely been cleaned may require more than water. First, apply a lemon oil-based furniture polish to a soft, dry cloth and wipe the screen gently. If the furniture polish does not do the trick, you can try a nonionic detergent, rubbing alcohol or gentle solvents.
Never apply a cleaning product directly to the surface of the stained glass screen. Always apply the cleanser onto a soft, dry cloth first. Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive cleansers as well as any type of ammonia.
