Keep Your Portable Fridge Battery Running

A portable fridge is an amazing invention that can allow you to take long road trips with a bit of luxury by bringing home-cooked foods with you on your journey. However, powering portable fridges is a challenge.  Here are some ways that you can keep your portable fridge battery running.

Step 1 – Know How Long the Fridge’s Batteries Will Last

Knowing how long the fridge’s batteries will last before the fridge needs to be recharged can save you time, effort and energy.

Step 2 – Plug the Fridge into the Mains before You Go

The best way to preserve your batteries’ life is to plug the portable fridge into the mains before you leave on your trip. By using this method, the food is as chilled for as long as possible and the fridge does not have to expend large amounts of energy to chill the food when you start your journey.

Step 3 – Plug the Fridge into the Cigarette Lighter in Your Car

When you make a long journey, plug the portable fridge into your cigarette lighter so that the fridge’s batteries have an opportunity to recharge. As most cigarette-lighter attachments are only intended to draw electricity when the ignition is on, there is little point in plugging the fridge in after you have parked. In any event, the car battery has to be preserved so you can start it in the morning!

Step 4 – Plug into Solar Facilities

The latest trend in portable fridges is portable fridges that draw their energy from green sources. Some fridges are connected to solar panels, which recharge a fridge’s batteries and ensure that the sun is used to cool your food. A solar-powered portable fridge can be very cost efficient because, once you have paid for the solar panels, the energy from the sun is free!

Step 5 – Make General Efficiency Improvements

Making general energy-efficiency improvements will greatly reduce the amount of energy the fridge needs to operate and therefore the amount of energy it will draw from its batteries. Here are some tips.

  • Insulate the fridge.
  • Cover the fridge in a wet towel to keep it cool.
  • Keep the fridge in the shade.
  • Purchase a fridge in a light color to deflect heat.
