Keeping Toddlers Away From Spring Bulbs

by DoItYourself Staff

Gardening can be a challenge with little ones running around, and keeping them away from spring bulbs can be especially challenging. Here are some simple ideas to keep your bulbs intact even with toddlers around.

Fencing Solutions

You can easily put up some decorate fiberglass or vinyl picket fencing to keep toddlers at way. These will generally not require a lot of handyman experience and are inexpensive to purchase. Just measure out the length you will need and purchase enough sections to cover the space. Be sure you are choosing a fence material that will be safe for you kids.

Give Them a Garden Area

If you have a sandbox in your yard already, you can probably keep the kids away from your garden by giving them their own garden. Get them plastic beach pails, plastic shovels, and even a rake. Let them ‘plant’ their own toys. Of course this isn’t a guarantee, but it can divert their attention.

Use Planting Pots

You can plant bulbs in pots and place the pots in the ground. This will make it harder for a curious toddler to uproot the bulbs. It will also be a great idea to use the fence with the pots for extra protection for your spring plants.

Having toddlers running around can make many things challenging for you. Fortunately you can take simple steps to keep your plants guarded from their curious paws.
