Kitchen Cooking Utensils for a New Apartment

by DoItYourself Staff
Buying kitchen cooking utensils can be an exciting experience. Whether you cook a few days out of the week or you’re an aspiring chef, you will still need to basic cooking utensils. The thought of stocking up a new kitchen should bring feelings of joy for those of us that like to cook. Shiny new pots, sharp knives, or a butcher’s block cutting board can be quite enjoyable especially when it is your first very own kitchen items. It is not necessary to buy ’expensive’ cookware. Although going high-end is a good investment to make for pots and pans, buying things such as wooden spoons or a measuring cup are items that will have to be replaced over time. If you take care of your pots and pans, they can last you a lifetime.

Your Paring Down-Not Gearing Up

The first step will be to take a good look at what you will use everyday. Are there special pans or a certain spatulas that you prefer to use every time you cook? Like that 4 quart sauce pot or do you prefer to use wooden spoons over metal ones? The next question is to ask yourself what do you like to cook? Italian? Chinese? The utensils you need depend on what meal you are cooking but it is recommended that every cook should have a heavy pan with a lid and a large saute pan with a lid as well. You will use these items more than you think. Think about whether you are going to entertain in your home. If so, you will need serving dishes and platters that are versatile and adapt to any kind of food and occasion.

Below is a basic list to get when shopping for your new kitchen supply list. No more begging or borrowing from family and friends. Return all your mom's Tupperware already! Of course not every item on the list below is ’necessary.’ It is all based on your cooking habits. For example, if you do not intend to do a lot of baking then there are a few things that you can take away from the list. Most of these items can be found at local cookware shops. It really all depends on where you live and what stores are nearby.
