Kundalini Guided Meditation

by DoItYourself Staff

Try practicing guided meditation to help you relax. Read on to learn about what you can achieve from kundalini (literally "coiled") meditation and how to put it into practice.

Prepare

Preparing for guided meditation will mean making sure that you are comfortable, both physically and mentally. Wear loose clothing that does not restrict your ability to breathe deeply and allows your body to move freely. It is also essential for you to find a suitable environment in which to meditate, making sure that it is calm and quiet. In some cases, background music can help to enhance the meditation experience. However, gentle music without lyrics is often best

Position

You can undertake kundalini guided meditation in any position as long as it is comfortable. The only important thing is to ensure that your back is straight. This will keep the body in the best position to allow oxygen to circulate around the body more easily. Be aware of your posture at all times to ensure that you do not end up slouching.

Breathing

Deep breathing is an important part of the guided meditation process, which can be both cleansing and relaxing when done correctly. The process for this is to breathe in through the nose and exhale through the mouth. Concentrating on taking deep breaths will provide more benefits than the shallow breaths many of us are used to taking. Inhaling deeply and holding it for 10 seconds before exhaling will help to give the body and brain more oxygen. This does much to reduce any feelings of lethargy that may affect you.

Muscles

Be aware of the tension within your muscles, which is the best way to ensure that it will be released during the process of kundalini guided meditation. You will often not even realize how taut muscles are until you concentrate on them. Close your eyes and work your way down your body, starting at the top of your head to consider all of your muscles. The forehead, jaw, neck and shoulders are all places where many hold tension without realizing it. Make a point of allowing these muscles to relax by exhaling the tension.

Mind

The working of the mind is an important part of meditation as your thoughts must be clear. If necessary, write down thoughts that persistently remain on your mind as a way to get rid of them. Visualization techniques can help to clear the mind so that you can focus on breathing and relaxing the muscles. Where you are unable to stop thoughts from running through your head, picture them being enclosed in a bubble. Watch the bubble float away to take the thought with it, which will effectively allow you to release it as it has been acknowledged. To gain energy, picture yourself in a sphere of white light with a root at the base of your spine that grows up through the earth and through your body.
