Learning techniques for sewing cord can make your pillows look even more professional and personalize any pillows that you have purchased. Learning how to sew cord onto a pillow isn't very difficult. With the right tools and equipment you shouldn't have any problem.
Step 1 - Measure Your Pillow
The first step is to measure the size of your pillow. You need to know this measurement so that you know how much cording you need. The length of the cording will be the the length of the outside of your pillow, plus a few inches to wrap the fabric around.
Step 2 - Cutting the Fabric
Once you have chosen the fabric for your cording you need to put it down on a table and cut it to the right length. You need a strip of fabric which will cover the cording that you have just purchased. Measure the length of the fabric and allow an extra two inches. Mark this and cut it out using scissors.
The strip of fabric needs to be 2 inches wide to give you plenty of space to attach the cording to your pillow properly. Next, cut a long strip of cording the same length as the fabric.
Step 3 - Making the Cord
Put the strip of fabric face down on your table and put the piece of cording inside. Fold the fabric in half to make a small pocket. Use your pins to keep this pocket sealed and make sure that the cording is kept in the center.
Use a sewing machine to stitch all the way along the cording. This will create a nice look and feel to the cording, which is then ready to be attached to your pillow. Make sure that the cord is taut so that it looks professional.
Step 4 - Attaching the Cord
Once you have finished making the cord you then need to attach it to the pillow. Get all of the pieces of fabric for your pillow together and put them face down on the table. Stitch the cording to the pieces of pillow material. Make sure that this is a secure stitch that won't come undone. Use a sewing machine to stitch all the way along three edges of the pillow.
Next, turn your pillow inside out and fill it with stuffing. Cotton wool or stuffing material can be used to stuff the pillow. Once you have done that you just need to stitch the opening shut. Do this by hand and try to be as neat as possible.
