Left and Right Brain Exercises for Most Favorable Performance
Exercise plays an important part in our well being, and this doesn't exclude brain exercises. Much of our personality and the way we see the world depends on the way our brain is wired.
Though counter-intuitive, the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body, whilst the right side of the body is wired to work with the left part of the brain.
Peak brain performance is achieved when the two parts of the brain work in the same proportion, so you can be analytical (left brain) and creative (right brain) at will. There are exercises both for left and right brain to strengthen the less developed hemisphere.
Left Brain Characteristics
Left-brain dominant people often show exceptional organization skills, analytical thinking, and most of the time, are very comfortable with following rules and schedules.
Exercises for Left-Brain Dominant People
Brain exercises for a more right brained orientation would be to change your daily routine (which might not be easy as it sounds). Other exercises may be listening to more music as you go about your daily chores, which will help at multitasking. Change your choice of reading to allow new information in, and extend this to what you watch on TV and the choice of music you usually prefer. Pattern reading is also useful, like cloud watching to see what shapes the clouds make.
Right Brain Characteristics
Right brain dominance gives a tendency to be impulsive, and not thoroughly grounded, but with more than a fair share of creativity. Thought process is not linear but goes into all directions at once. A right brain oriented person might also find it very difficult to take directions, and will often learn and remember better by visual aids.
Exercises for Right-Brain Dominant People
Left brain exercises which will help you develop your left brain hemisphere would be crossword puzzles and number games, listing things you have to do in an organized fashion and setting them down on paper in an ordered way before taking any action. Right brainers see the whole picture of any situation at once which can be a bit stressful when it comes to take any stand or decision. They tend to be “middle” people and others might not understand them so easily. Learning to use the left brain more would help and ease any stress.
