If you have a new or old door and you are trying to install a new lock set it may not be as hard as you may think. By just having a few simple tools and being able to measure accurately you can make it a very easy job. Not all of these steps will need to be done if the previous lock set is similar to the new one.Six Simple Steps to Installing a Lock Set
- Use a spirit level to mark the top and bottom of the striker plate along with the opening and backset distace. Doing this will make it easier to line up. You may not need to do this if the striker plate is the same as the previous lock set.
- Next you want to attach the guide for the lock set to the edge of the door. When doing this, make sure you follow the markings you previously placed.
- You now need to drill holes for the lock set. Be extra careful that you don’t splinter the wood while drilling.
- The lockset should have come with a template and router bit for cutting the mortise for the bolt plate. The plate should sit flush with the door edge.
- Install the bolt and the plate.
- Finish by attaching the lock set assembly.
