Loft hatch doors are a great way to seclude or add privacy to a loft area from the area below. Loft hatch doors may break or warp over time, requiring replacement. You can create a simple removable hatch door to enclose the hatch and add privacy to the space. This is an easy do-it-yourself task for anyone with woodworking experience.
Step 1 – Measure Hatch
Measure the dimensions of the hatch from the outside of the frame to the outside of the frame for the length and width.
Step 2 – Create Frame Box
Cut wood to the length and width measurements of the hatch frame. Apply wood glue and then nail the wood together to form a box. Cut and attach a piece of wood or plywood to create the bottom of the box.
Step 3 – Create Frame Base
Cut wood to the length and width measurements of the hatch frame again. Apply wood glue and then nail to the box frame you just created. These boards should face flat against the previous box creating a base that is larger than the loft hatch to the door that can rest on top of the hatch.
Step 4 – Install
To use, simply rest the hatch door on top of the hatch and push up to access the hatch.
