Make Your Own Chandelier Lamp
what you'll need
- A lamp
- Plain inexpensive lampshade
- Crystal beads, glass beads, plastic beads or small shells
- Fishing line
- Hot glue
- Hot glue gun
- Scissors
A chandelier lamp can add a touch of elegance and unique style above any table or sitting area. You can use chandelier lamps over your dining room table or even over larger coffee or end tables in your living room. Chandelier lamps can be expensive, but you can make your own by following the steps in this guide.
Step 1 - Prepare the Lampshade
Remove the paper shade from the frame of the lampshade. The paper also serves to hold the frame together, so removing the paper will allow you to remove the center frame piece from the lampshade. The bottom circular piece can be discarded.
Step 2 - Prepare the Bead Lines
- Thread the fishing line through one of your beads and tie a double knot to secure the bead (on both sides of the bead).
- Use your hot glue gun to place a drop of hot glue on the knot to keep it in place.
- Continue threading beads onto the fishing line, and try to tie them as close together as you can to hide the fishing line.
- Continue to thread the beads on the fishing line until there is about 2 inches of line left.
Step 3 - Attach the Bead Lines to the Frame
- Tie bead line onto the lampshade ring, tie a triple knot and add a drop of hot glue to secure it.
- Cut the excess line with your scissors.
- Repeat steps two and three as many time as needed to hang beads around the entire circumference of the frame loop.
Step 4- Decorate the Outer Frame Loop
Use your hot glue gun to affix beads around the entire perimeter of the metal frame loop. This will add an attractive finish to the frame itself and also hide the unsightly metal frame as well as the fishing line knots.
Step 5 - Attach the Chandelier Lamp Shade to the Lamp
- Place the newly created chandelier lamp shade on the lamp itself.
- Make sure that none of your beads touch the light bulb installed in the lamp, and that all of the bead lines hang evenly.
- If some beads lines hang a bit lower than others, you may need to use your scissors to trim the lines and then use hot glue to make sure the beads don't fall off of the lines.
