A bed headboard is a great way to add a unique feature to your bedroom. To make a mirror door headboard, you can use any species of lumber. A mirrored bed headboard can turn your bed into a unique piece of art, but it requires patience and time. But the final result will be worth the effort.
Step 1 – Planning the Design
You need 4 2x4's to make the shelf which will support the mirror door headboard. You also need to decide the position of the bed.
Step 2 – Taking Measurements
First, to make the headboard, use the tape measure to measure the width of the bed and write it down on paper. This will be the length of the headboard and the shelf. The height of the shelf should be equal to the width of the door.
Step 3 – Cutting with the Circular Saw
Measure and mark the length of the headboard on the door and cut it to size. Then, cut the lumber for the shelf. To build the shelf, you need 2 long pieces of wood and 2 short pieces of wood. The length of the long pieces should be equal to the length of the door and the length of the 2 short pieces should be equal to the width of the door. Measure and mark on the 2x4's and cut 4 pieces.
Step 4 – Sanding the Wood
Clean the lumber to remove all dust and dirt using a damp sponge. Let it dry for a few hours. After that, give it a good rub with sandpaper. This will remove all imperfections and scratches on the wood. Fill the holes on the door with wood putty.
Step 5 – Stain the Lumber and Door
Apply stain on all the cut pieces of lumber and door. You can also paint them to match your bedroom décor at this stage.
Step 6 – Assembling the Shelf
First, pre-drill the holes, 2 on each end of the long pieces of lumber. Then, apply wood glue to the edges. Assemble the shelf for the headboard by attaching the 4 2x4's with screws.
Step 8 - Attaching the Shelf to the Wall
To attach the shelf on to the wall, find the position of the studs. Place the stud finder on the wall and mark the position of the studs. Then, attach the shelf to the wall by screwing through the 2x4's into the studs. Repeat the process on all 4 sides of the shelf.
Step 9 – Attaching the Mirror Door to the Shelf
Now, you have to pre-drill holes at the center of each side of the shelf and on each corner. Place the mirror door on top of the shelf. Finally, screw the mirror door headboard to the shelf using self-drilling screws.
