There are many wonderful roses out there, but miniature rose are among the most beautiful and stunning of all rose varieties. Miniature roses are available in virtually all the colors of their larger cousins, in a compact and lovely package that is perfect for indoor or outdoor use.

Many gardeners also like the fact that miniature roses can be quite a bit easier to work with than larger roses, with many varieties requiring little more than regular watering.

Indoor Miniature Rose Care

Before choosing miniature roses for your indoor environment, however, it is important to keep in mind that the word miniature is relative when it comes to miniature roses. While some varieties of miniature roses are indeed great houseplants, other miniature rose varieties will grow to as high as four feet in height. Micro mini roses, on the other hand, grow only about five inches tall, and are quite easy to care for and maintain.

If you do decide to keep these micro mini rose in your home as houseplants, it is important to plant and care for them properly. Like all roses, miniature roses love the sun, and they should therefore be placed in the sunniest window you can find. It is also important to be on the lookout for signs that the roses may need additional supplemental lighting. If the roses appear to stretch out, and you begin to see wide gaps in between the leaves, it may be time to give them some additional light.

Proper watering is perhaps the most important part of keeping miniature roses indoors. In fact, proper watering is the key to success with virtually any type of houseplant. In the case of micro mini roses, it is important to give them a thorough watering whenever the soil appears dry. It is also a good idea to mist the plants on a regular basis, gently spraying the tops and the undersides of the foliage. This spraying will help to reduce dust and also help to dislodge any spider mites that may have taken up residence.

The size of the pot you choose for your miniature roses is an important consideration as well. The pot should be properly sized for the roses – neither too small nor too large. If the pot is too small, the roses will be cramped and may not grow properly. If the pot is too big, the roses also may not grow properly.

Outdoor Miniature Rose Care

Of course not all miniature roses will be grown as houseplants, and these tiny roses make wonderful plants for the outdoor garden as well. When planted outdoors, most varieties of miniature roses will bloom from the spring months all the way until winter arrives. These roses can even survive the winter if they are covered with a good layer of protecting mulch.

Miniature roses can be planted directly in the ground, in a hanging basket or in an eight or ten inch pot. When choosing a planting location, it is important to make sure that the location gets plenty of sunlight. Be sure that the area you choose is not shaded by trees or anything else that would cast a shadow. Roses, no matter what their size, love the sun.

When planting your roses directly in the ground, begin by digging a hole about a foot in diameter. After the hole has been prepared, take the rose out of its pot, taking care to gently remove and untangle the roots. The roots should be gently placed in the hole, and the hole should then be refilled with loose soil until the roses are level with the ground. After the roses have been planted, they should be thoroughly watered, and watered faithfully going forward.

Watering is perhaps the most important part of taking care of any type of plant. It is essential that the soil not be allowed to dry out, especially during the first couple of weeks after planting. It is important to keep the soil moist at all times. The soil should be checked on a daily basis, and watered as needed.
