Mist Humidifiers
Mist humidifiers are machines that add moisture into a room’s atmosphere to facilitate easier breathing. Mist humidifiers are commonly recommended in homes during the cold season when electric or gas heaters are in operation. They are also frequently recommended for people with breathing conditions, such as asthma.
There are two main types of mist humidifiers:
- Cool mist
- Warm mist
Cool Mist Humidifiers Impact Temperature
Mist humidifiers that are classified as cool operate by passing water over a wick. This actually produces water vapor, which will slightly cool down the temperature in a room as moisture is restored to the air. This type of mist humidifier can come in multiple sizes, ranging from models designed for room use to those meant to work in conjunction with a heating system.
Warm Mist Humidifiers
Mist humidifiers that are classified as warm work by boiling water to release steam. These machines tend to be rather compact in size and are meant for in-room use. Mist humidifiers of the warm variety are also frequently used to diffuse medicine into the air.
Considerations With Mist Humidifiers
Both warm and cold humidifiers must be cleaned on a regular basis. Warm mist humidifiers, in particular, can have problems with bacterial growth if they are not properly cleaned.
