Mopping Techniques from the Pros
While mopping is usually not fun, it's an important part of your cleaning routine. Many people assume that mopping is mopping, regardless how you do it. But there are ways to clean your floors more effectively with less time. Here are a few tips.
Mop Heads
Not all mop heads are created equal. Sponge mops are great, but they tend to trap dirt and slosh it around as you mop. For an easy and effective solution to this, try a microfiber or other cloth like mop head. These can be removed and laundered. In most cases, the mop itself will have a swivel head that will allow you to get the mop in to hard to reach places.
Floors with a texture will benefit from a rag head mop.
How To Mop
Start at the bottom of the room and work your up. This will help you prevent walking over the mopped areas.
If you are using a rag mop, then mop in large figure eight patterns. If you are using a microfiber or sponge mop, mop in a straight back and forth pattern.
Rinsing your mop often will help you with a cleaner floor. If you use a sink, use one side for the mop water, and rinse the mop occasionally in the other side of the sink.
