Natural Rugs - Your Green Transformation

Interest in natural rugs has increased over the past few years as interest in eco-friendly products has increased. Rugs made of eco-friendly sustainable materials include bamboo, sisal, recycled products and seagrass.

Bamboo Rugs

Bamboo has become one of the green carpet choices that has gained in popularity in recent years. Not only is bamboo an extremely versatile fiber, but it can be grown in almost any climate. As soon as it is harvested, it is replaced within a matter of days by new shoots on the bamboo plant. This makes it an extremely attractive fiber for eco-friendly products.

Natural carpeting made of bamboo is easy to keep clean and excellent for high traffic areas around the home. It can also be used in areas with dampness without sacraficing cleanability, like the bathroom and kitchen and even outside.

Bamboo also is extremely durable and becomes softer the longer it is used, making it extremely attractive to homeowners looking for a long-term investment in their green carpet and rug solutions.

Sisal

Sisal rugs are made of grass fibers that are spun into long strands that are woven into rugs. These rugs are extremely versatile and can be used in almost any room that does not have a high amount of moisture in it, since moisture will destroy them. Great for homes with tile floors or outdoor rooms, sisal rugs are soft under foot and can create a warm and inviting tone for almost any room.

Sisal rugs are easy to keep clean and require little more than a quick run of the vacuum cleaner to keep them spiffy clean. They are great in high traffic areas like hallways and family rooms and will last for years with proper care.

Recycled Materials

One of the newest innovations in the green carpet movement is the use of recycled products to make soft and durable rugs. The most common material used is actually recycled tires, which are recycled to create amazingly soft area rugs and carpets. These green carpets are easy to clean and extremely rugged and great for areas in the home where they may be subjected to a high amount of wear.

Seagrass

Seagrass is a natural grass that is indigenous to China and is extremely sustainable. It grows in vast quantities and has been used in natural fiber rugs and carpets for many years. This natural fiber can be naturally dryed or can be just as attractive in its own mellow pale cream or grass color.

Rugs made of seagrass are very durable and will last years with a mere light sweep of the vacuum. Unlike bamboo, seagrass is not optimal for rooms where moisture and water are likely to come in contact with the rug, such as bathrooms and kitchens. However, seagrass rugs are extremely stain resistant and last for many years with reasonable care.
