Distress, or negative stress, is actually a form of anxiety. Negative stress rears its ugly head most often as a result of extreme stressors in our lives. We must treat negative stress in order to prevent it from causing further physiological problems, such as heart disease or stroke.

How to Treat Negative Stress Without Using Medication
• Evaluate the cause of your stress
• Reduce your workload
• If you are having trouble in a relationship, seek outside help and advice from a counselor or minister
• Look for ways to reduce your financial stress. If possible, take a part-time job, or find ways to cut back spending
• Take a free parenting class to help you cope with the demands of child rearing
• Find a group of friends to relax with – even one hour a week can make a substantial difference in the way you feel
