Noise Reducing Tips for a CPU Cooling Fan

by DoItYourself Staff

If you notice your computer making loud humming noises, it is probably coming from the CPU cooling fan. This internal fan is essential to making sure your CPU does not overheat because if it overworks, the racket can be almost unbearable. Follow the tips below to cut down on your CPU cooling fan noise.

Computer Placement

Something as simple as where you put your computer can make it so the CPU cooling fan has to work extra hard to keep the temperature down. If you have a desktop, try to put your tower on the floor but with space behind it so that air can recycle out and your CPU cooling fan can work properly.

Dust

Dust and debris clinging to your computer can block air flow and make the CPU cooling fan work twice as hard, thus the annoying humming. Regularly wipe your computer with a cloth to keep dust away.

Upgrade Your CPU Cooler

You can install new coolers to aid your CPU cooling fan so that it does not overwork itself and make too much noise. There are different types to choose from and options range from additional fans to specially designed acoustic-friendly fans to copper and water plates that absorb heat.
