One-Piece Shower Enclosure: Pros and Cons

by DoItYourself Staff

A one piece shower enclosure can be installed in almost any bathroom. However, before installing one in your home, it is important to be aware of the pros and cons associated with this type of shower enclosure.

Pros

If you have absolutely no need for a bathtub, one piece shower enclosures ensure that you won't have to deal with one. Also, as most one piece shower enclosures come with high quality glass or plexiglass doors, you won't need to constantly replace shower curtains, which, depending on the type of shower curtain you use, can save you a good deal of money in the long run. What's more, if you have any elderly relatives in your home, one piece enclosures offer more room for shower safety seats than traditional bathtub/shower combos.

Cons

Many small children and senior citizens prefer baths to showers, which makes one piece shower enclosures ill-advised for homes in which children and/or elderly relatives reside. Additionally, if you frequently bathe your pets indoors, bathtubs are generally better suited for this purpose. While you won't have to worry about replacing shower curtains with one piece enclosures, you should know that the above mentioned glass doors can be very expensive to replace should anything happens to them.
