Painting Brick Veneer Siding
what you'll need
- Rollers
- Hose with pressurized water
- Masking tape
- Paint
- Primer made specifically for siding
- Wide cloth
Brick veneer siding enhances the design and look of a wall, and more importantly, it insulates against unsuitable weather like strong wind, rain and heat. Painting brick veneer siding is an easy task. Here's how to accomplish it successfully.
Step 1: Cleaning
Use a hose and pressurized water to thoroughly clean the brick veneer, one wall at a time. Remove any stuck-on oil or other dirt.
Step 2: Check the Siding
Make sure there are no holes or cracks in the brick veneer siding. If there are, they have to be filled using concrete and allowed to dry before painting.
Step 3: Cover the Area not to be Painted
Use the cloth to cover other parts of the building that you don’t want to get paint on. Masking tape can be used to cover the edges of doors and windows adjacent to the area to be painted.
Step 4: Priming the Siding
Use the roller to apply the primer to the siding and allow it to dry completely. Make sure you have the correct type of primer. Otherwise, the paint will not adhere and you will get peeling.
Step 5: Painting
Clean the roller thoroughly with water and apply the first coat of paint. Allow the paint to dry completely before adding more coats, as necessary, to the brick veneer siding. You'll soon have a brand new look.
