Selecting the Right Paving Materials

Paving materials are any material that is used to create a driveway, path or patio. There are a number of options available in paving materials. The right selection can have a big impact on a job. To make sure the right materials are picked, follow this process:

Step 1 – Consider the Job for Paving Materials

Before selecting paving materials, carefully define the scope of the job. Certain materials, such as concrete, are ideal for driveways and walkways. Bricks or cobblestone, for example, might look spectacular, but they are not always the best choice for drives.

Step 2 – Consider the Costs

Before making a choice among paving materials, do consider the costs. It can, for example, be much more economic to make a short path out of standard paver stones than concrete. The opposite may be true, however, for a large driveway.

Step 3 – Keep the Final Look in Mind

Do consider aesthetics when making a decision among different paving materials. Putting concrete down in an old fashion garden, for example, might take away from the final appearance. Cobblestones, however, could complete the picture perfectly.

Step 4 – Consider the Labor Involved

Paving materials, no matter the type, will require serious labor to install. Some jobs, however, are just bigger than others. If labor is a concern, make the final selection carefully. Stone, bricks and blocks, for example, can often be placed with a few simple steps. Concrete and asphalt will take more work.
