In the following paragraphs, you will find a list of tools and materials and the easy to follow steps to take to build a stand that will give your pet bird hours of enjoyment.
Step 1: Cut Half Inch Dowel
Measure off between four to seven lengths on the half inch dowel of varying lengths from a minimum of four inches to a maximum of eight to nine inches. Cut the dowel on your marks.
Step 2: Sand the Cut Lengths
Sand the ends of the dowels to remove the splinters and give a slight bevel to the edges.
Step 3: Drill the Post
Insert the drill bit into the drill and secure it. Drill as many holes in the four inch dowel or four by four at random as you have cut lengths of cut half inch dowels. Make these holes approximately one inch deep.
Step 4: Attach Base Plate to Post
Coat one side of the plastic with the contact cement. Affix the plastic to what will be the top side of the base plate. Liberally coat the bottom of the upright post with the wood glue. Set the post in the center of the base plate and secure them to each other with the wood screws.
Step 5: Insert Dowel Lengths in Post
Liberally coat the insides of the holes you drilled in the post and the dowel lengths with the wood glue. Insert the dowels into the holes until they bottom out.
Step 6: Attach the Salt Lick
Pick a dowel rod to mount the salt lick above. Attach the salt lick to the upright post approximately three inches above the dowel length in your selected location with one of the wood screws.
Step 7: Attach Toys
Attach lengths of string to the miscellaneous toys. Attach these lengths of string to the dowels on the upper levels of the post. Birds like mirrors. It’s recommended that at least one of these toys is a spinning mirror.
