Plant Winter Perennials for Year-Round Blooms

by DoItYourself Staff

Winter perennials will add an attractive touch to your yard when placed throughout the garden area. There are several winter perennials that will add vibrant color to your home's exterior during those long winter months.

Types of Winter Perennials

  • Evergreen trees and shrub produce green leaves all year long.
  • Holly, ciborium, winterberry and pyracantha plants sprout attractive red berries during the winter months.
  • Birch and ironwood trees, though they lose their leaves in the winter, are lovely throughout the growing season and winter.

An added bonus of these perennials are the natural foods they produce. Birds attracted to these brightly color berries and flowers will liven your garden during the otherwise dormant winter months.
