Portable Humidifiers

by DoItYourself Staff

No matter where you call home or what the environmental conditions, sustaining the proper humidity level is important. Improper humidity levels can lead to health concerns and discomfort, uncomfortable surroundings, and problems with natural woods and grains throughout your home. The best way to cure this problem is to purchase a portable humidifier.

How portable humidifiers work
Water vapor in the atmosphere will dissipate when the temperature drops, thus lowering humidity level. Portable humidifiers are very simply designed to add water to the environment thus raising the humidity level. The optimal humidity level is about 45 percent, but proper humidity can be maintained with levels between 30 and 50 percent.

Purchasing a portable humidifier
Before investing in a portable humidifier consider that with some humidifiers you will need to use distilled water, demineralization cartridges, and filters. Some types, such as impeller and ultrasonic humidifiers require upkeep and may be more costly, in the long run, than portable humidifiers that are manufactured with minimal replacement, upkeep and maintenance costs.

The two types of portable humidifiers:
• Cool Mist humidifiers
• Warm Mist humidifiers

Portable humidifiers are designed to produce the correct humidity level for a home. As with any appliance, be sure to read the manufacturers guidelines and instructions for proper use to insure a healthy environment.
