The Pottery Earthenware FAQs

These include all tiles, dishes, and other articles made of baked clay which have been fired. There are basically two types:

Vitreous, which includes fine porcelain, china, and stoneware,

Non Vitreous or earthenware.

Pottery or earthenware conducts heat slowly and evenly; retains heat well. Glaze is usually acid resistant, but is affected by sudden changes in temperature. Pottery and earthenware should be protected from harsh abrasives and heavy blows.
