A pregnant mother must eat well throughout the pregnancy and take great personal care to prepare for breast-feeding and post-pregnancy weight loss. Mothers are not only eating to keep themselves well, but to ensure that their fetus grows healthy as well. Eating natural and healthy foods such as raisins and nuts can be a great idea during morning sickness, as they can be eaten by the handful.

Spinach and Kale

Dark leafy greens such as spinach and kale contain high levels of folic acid. They can be cooked in soups, pies and virtually any hot dish.

Garlic

Garlic can help prevent preeclampsia, a condition of hypertension that includes high blood pressure in pregnant mothers. Fresh garlic can be used in breads, salads and hot meals.

Raisins and Nuts

One ounce of raisins provides 2 grams of protein and 4 percent of the RDA of iron. Nuts contain Omega-3 fatty acids and protein, which are important for pregnant women.

Citrus Fruits

Oranges and grapefruits contain high levels vitamin C. Pregnant mothers are more vulnerable to serious infections and should try to consume as much as 85 mg of Vitamin C a day. You can also drink orange juice that is fortified with calcium. A single serving will provide half of the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) for vitamin C and 15 percent of daily calcium needs.
