Pressure Canning

by DoItYourself Staff

Pressure canning is the only safe method for canning and preserving vegetables, meats, poultry, and seafood. You are able to reach the temperatures high enough to destroy the micro organisms that are in food that cause it to spoil. You can only destroy these bacteria’s through pressure canning as the temperatures need to reach 240 degrees.

Pressure Canning Method

The pressure canning method is simple; you place the sealed jars of food in the pressure canner in about 2 to 3 inches of water. You then allow the temperature to reach 240 degrees, to kill all the micro organisms, and then store.

You can use the pressure canning method to preserve any type of food and then enjoy it later and it will taste as fresh as the day you canned it.

Always ensure that you have all the canning supplies before you begin the pressure canning process.
