Preventing Mold from Growing on Outdoor Wood Furniture

by DoItYourself Staff

Having outdoor wood furniture requires some maintenance in order to keep it looking good. When you have wood furniture, you have to worry about keeping mold off of it. Mold can damage the furniture as well as cause health issues for those around it. Here are a few tips on how to prevent mold from growing on outdoor wood furniture.

Sunlight

One of the most important things to remember about wood furniture is that you should keep it in sunlight as much as possible. Mold can not physically grow when it is exposed to sunlight. Therefore, if you leave your furniture out in direct sunlight as much as you can, you will not have to worry about any mold issues.

Moisture

Something else that you should keep in mind are moisture concerns. Mold requires some form of moisture in order for it to grow. Therefore, the dryer you can keep your furniture, the better off you will be. Many people allow their furniture to be rained on all the time and do nothing to help it dry out. If you know that rain is coming, you should put the wood furniture under a canopy if possible. Then once the rain is gone, make sure that it has access to sunlight again.
