Project Process Mishaps

by DoItYourself Staff

Undertaking any project process can be time-consuming and frustrating when you are eager to have work done on your property. However, following some simple rules can help you avoid this by ensuring that your dealings with the contractor are mutually beneficial.

Full Beginnings

From the outset, ensure that your contractor understands what it is you want to achieve. Fully discuss the project before any work begins to get confirmation that the contractor is capable and to get an idea of how long the work will take.

Clarify Quote

Request confirmation on anything outlined in the quote that you don’t understand or that doesn’t appear to relate to the work required. Make sure both labor and materials are covered and obtain the quote in writing.

Deposit

If the contractor requires a deposit, confirm that it will be used for materials and that it will be deducted from your final bill. Obtain a receipt for it as well as for any subsequent sums paid.

Regular Contact

Ensure that you are contactable for the duration of the work so that any potential change to plans can be discussed. Make it clear whether or not you are accepting any suggestion the contractor makes and determine whether this changes the cost of the project.
