Pros and Cons of a Gas Powered Blender

by DoItYourself Staff

Gas powered blenders can be a convenient alternative to traditional blenders, but if you don’t know both the good and bad of owning one, you may not end up being thrilled with your purchase. Read on to find out the pros and cons of gas powered blenders.

Pros

1. Power

A gas powered blender comes in handy when you have a large amount of ice or food to separate. Other, traditional blenders have blades that are not as strong and sharp, so you often have to break up large pieces or puree them before blending. If you have a lot of ice or hard blocks of food, this can be time consuming, so a gas powered blender would be best.

2. Quantity

If you have a lot of get-togethers and plan to use the blender for both foods and beverages, gas powered blenders can provide a large quantity of food and drink in less than a minute. Traditional blenders are best if you will be making a normal amount of liquids and foods.

3. Lifespan

Since gas powered blenders have stronger motors to easily break up large chunks of ice or food, the motor will last longer than in other blenders. It also has the ability to operate continuously and not overheat, a big help at gatherings that last for hours.

4. Portability

On boating or camping trips, or any place that will not have a power plug, gas powered blenders will still operate. They can be brought virtually anywhere and run without needing a power plug or an extension cord. With a gas powered blender, you can make drinks or foods at virtually any outdoor location, something you can’t do with other blenders.

Cons

1. Cost

Due to its flexibility, portability and strength, gas powered blenders are more expensive than other types of blenders. Additionally, the amount of gas you will need to operate it often surpasses the amount of electricity you would consume with a blender that plugs in. If you are going to use your blender for frequent, high-volume parties or activities, a gas powered blender is worth the cost. If not, another model will be more cost effective.

2. Effect on Environment

There are certain gas powered blenders with engines that emit a high level of pollution. In certain states, like California, this type of blender is banned. Check state laws before purchasing a gas powered blender, and try to identify those companies which are more energy conscious.

3. Bulkiness

Although the gas powered blender’s main feature is its portability, some models are heavy and bulky. If you are not willing or able to carry a wider, heavier blender when you go on trips or even just out to the backyard, you’re better off buying another type of blender.

Gas powered blenders have pros and cons that are personal to the buyer. Consider what functions you really need and how often you will use it, and explore the different brands on the market.
