Quick Ways to Clean Plastic Blinds

by DoItYourself Staff

what you'll need

  • Vacuum cleaner with brush attachments
  • Feather duster
  • Empty spray bottles
  • Water
  • Mild liquid soap
  • Sponge
  • Washcloths
  • Large towel

If any of your home's windows feature plastic blinds, you should familiarize yourself with how to properly clean them. Fortunately, provided your plastic blinds aren't too dirty, there are several fast, easy ways to make sure they stay dirt-free.

Step 1 - Use a Feather Duster

One of the easiest ways to clean plastic blinds is to thoroughly dust them with the aid of a feather duster. To do this, repeatedly run the aforementioned cleaning tool across the blinds in broad horizontal motions, until they have been sufficiently purged of dust, debris and other assorted bits of filth.

Step 2 - Use a Vacuum Cleaner with Brush Attachments

A vacuum cleaner with small brush attachments can also prove quite useful in cleaning your plastic blinds. In much the same fashion as a feather duster, simply run the vacuum's brush attachment across the blinds until they have been successfully cleaned.

Step 3 - Use Water

Good old fashioned soap and water are other highly effective tools for cleaning plastic blinds. After removing the blinds, set them atop a large towel and spray them with a mixture of warm water and mild liquid soap. Next, wipe them clean with the aid of a sponge or washcloth. Lastly, rinse off your cleaner with a water-filled spray bottle and dry the blinds with a clean cloth.
