Rabbit Cage Cleaning Tips

by DoItYourself Staff

Rabbits are a popular child's pet, but cleaning the rabbit cage is considerably less popular. The cage needs to be done from time to time, but in order to get the job done without too much trouble, you should follow some simple advice on getting the job done quickly and easily.

Clean Regularly

Cleaning a little bit of the rabbit cage every day will prevent you having to work harder to clean it at the end of the week. Remove uneaten food every day, and get rid of hay that is soiled or wet.

Deep Clean Weekly

Once a week, take the animal out of the rabbit cage, and take away all of the feeding bowls and other accessories. Put some hot water into the cage, and rinse it thoroughly, scrubbing if necessary.

Have a Cleaning Plan

Set out a cleaning schedule, as you would do when cleaning a house.

Avoid the Kitchen

You can clean the cage in the bathroom tub if you wish, but you should definitely not clean in the kitchen sink, or around the cooking area. Dirt from the rabbit can contaminate your kitchen spaces, so keep away from there while you are cleaning the rabbit cage.

Try Vinegar

If you have a particularly difficult stain, try adding a touch of vinegar to the rabbit cage. Leave for 20 minutes, and then scrape the stain off.
