Radon Gas Mitigation
Radon gas mitigation is simple to do in your home. This colorless, odorless gas can easily seep through the cracks in the walls of your home. It is also possible for it to contaminate your water supply. Due to the radioactive nature of radon, it has been shown that excess radon can be a contributory factor towards certain types of cancer. Here are some simple ways you can mitigate the gas in your home.
Sealing
Make sure that all of the vents and pipes in your house have been adequately sealed. This won’t completely stop radon from seeping through however it will cut it down significantly.
Heat Recovery Ventilation
Install a heat recovery ventilator (HRV) into the basement of your home. This will use the existing air in your home to warm or cool any incoming air. This will reduce the radon brought in from other types of ventilators.
Water Filters
A charcoal filter fitted to your water supply where the water enters the property will reduce the levels of radon brought into your supply. There are also aeration devices available that you can fit to your faucets that will help with this.
Pressurizing Your Home
You can purchase a specialist pressure fan to install into your home. This fan will change the air pressure in your home, preventing radon from entering.
