Red Ribbon Adds a Lively Holiday Touch to Any Room

by Alyssa Davis

Red ribbon is a versatile holiday decorating accessory or accent that spices up virtually any type of holiday décor, from something understated and simple to more elegant and spectacular designs. Red ribbon adds a lively holiday touch to any room of your home, and can be the perfect addition to your outdoor holiday design as well. Since ribbon is one of the cheapest accessories, you can purchase enough to do a lot of decorating without spending more than a few dollars at most stores.

Color and scent are two of the most lasting impressions that you can leave on visitors and guests to your home during the holiday season and otherwise. Scents such as faux candles can easily create the atmosphere of home and holidays when you choose something Christmas or winter-themed, from peppermint to evergreen. Here are some tips to help you utilize red ribbon in different ways throughout your happy holiday home:

Add a red ribbon to any existing holiday decoration. It takes little practice or experience to tie a cute red ribbon bow around a staircase post, outdoor column, mailbox post, or dining chair back. They make a lively holiday touch, and a cute addition to your other holiday décor at the same time, no matter whether your design is regal and sophisticated or kid friendly and fun. Most retailers that offer red ribbon have a variety of styles, from shades of red to indoor versus outdoor fabric.

For an even simpler holiday touch, tie your red ribbon around a candlestick. This creates a small focal point that can very easily be duplicated, and makes a perfect idea for the dining room or kitchen. Line them up across the mantel to create the beginning of a beautiful family room focal point as well. You can add other holiday touches, such as evergreen sprigs or shiny metal stars, to dress up the focal point even more and create a winter atmosphere that lasts longer than just the Christmas holiday.

Different ribbon creates different focal points. You can change the look of a room simply by tying varying widths of ribbon in different places. For instance, most ribbon spools are specific widths, such as 1” across, but you can choose a 2” ribbon for more visual appeal, et cetera. Choosing a different width for a different look can help you create the same style of holiday touch without being exactly the same. Generally speaking, the wider the ribbon is, the larger the accent will become.

Red ribbon is a great eye catcher for outdoors as well as indoors, and you can create a simple holiday touch to any part of your porch or yard with a few simple bows. If you have a fence, use fat red bows to cap the fence posts, but be sure to anchor them to avoid blowing away in a strong wind and use fabric that is geared for outdoor use. Wind the red ribbon around the slats of your porch, and add a fat red bow to the columns on the porch to create something beautiful that will last for weeks during the holiday season.
