Refinish a Wood Coffee Table: Alternatives to Staining

by DoItYourself Staff

A wood coffee table is a popular piece of ‘occasional’ furniture which is used on a regular basis. It is not just used for placing coffee cups. In fact a coffee table receives a lot of use over its lifetime and a new surface may be necessary in some respects.

1 – Photographic Inlay

Using family pictures that you have either copied or printed can be glued to the top of your coffee table and covered with glass. It would be a talking point for visitors to see generations of the family in candid and portrait shots.

2 – Decoupage Design

Decoupage is a popular way to cover a coffee table top. Using decoupage means that you can turn the top of your coffee table into almost anything. It can have the appearance of a seaside view or look like a traveling trunk with old fashioned stickers. Use magazine cut outs or old pictures to create a scene on your table will look great.

3 – Ceramic Tiles

Ceramic tiles are a low cost and durable way to cover a coffee table top and keep it in an attractive state. By using spare tiles left over from another project, the outlay is minimal and the results can be incredible.

4 – Paint

Paint is another way of redecorating your wooden coffee table. By giving it a coat of refreshing color you can alter its appearance and keep it up with contemporary fashions.
