A vintage fireplace screen provides elegance as well as safety. Keep your fragile vintage screen in prime condition to ensure years of use.
Brass
Many options are available for cleaning stains from brass screens. Try any of these:
- A solution of fresh lemon juice and salt applied in small circles
- Rubbing alcohol scrubbed with a non-metal sponge
- Soft Scrub with a damp sponge
To remove an old coat of lacquer from the screen, use acetone. Polish, and then remove excess polish with more acetone. Once dried, spray or brush with metal lacquer.
Cast Iron
To remove the dirt stains and rust from a vintage cast iron screen, use a soft cleanser such as fine grain sandpaper.
To preserve the finish of metal, rub the surface with a small quantity of yellow oil. Afterwards, buff the metal with a soft cloth to make the surface shine.
