Removing ink stains can be tough depending on the type of ink that has leaked or been spilled.
Tips on removing ink stains
You might have had a previous experience with ink and didn’t understand why you couldn’t remove the ink with a tried and true traditional method. There are three basic types of ink: ballpoint, permanent, and water-based.
Ballpoint and permanent ink are the most difficult to remove. Water-based ink can be removed fairly easily with liquid laundry detergent and water.
When dealing with permanent or ballpoint ink, first place a towel under the stain. Now douse the stained area with rubbing alcohol to loosen the ink. Blot the ink or use a baby toothbrush until the ink stain dissolves. Then run under cold water.
Although removing ink stains is different depending on the type of ink, and there are no guarantees, one rule of thumb is to never rub the spot where the ink has been spilled.
If the ink stain does not completely dissolve after the first attempt, do not dry, and repeat the process as necessary.
Products that can be used to remove ink stains
Common household products can be used to remove ink stains. Rubbing alcohol, hair spray, non-acetone fingernail polish remover, and a baking soda/water mixture are all household products that can be used to remove ink stains.
