Pet Repellants

Here are four readily available household repellents for dogs, cats, and a number of other animals. All are considered effective.

Repellant Powder Mix

  • Cayenne Pepper 1 oz.
  • Powdered Mustard 1 1/2 oz.
  • Flour 2 oz.
  • Mix in a bag, sprinkle where desired. Re-sprinkle after heavy rain or 1 week.

Spray (This will stain surfaces)

  • Crush "moth balls" and dissolve in naphtha, mineral spirits, odorless paint thinner or similar solvent. Spray - keep away from flame.
  • After the solvent evaporates, the moth ball smell stays.
  • Note - this spray will stain fabrics and absorbant surfaces. Will also discolor vinyl and many plastics. etc.

Liquid (for outdoor use only)

  • Human Urine, sprayed on the surface.

Cats Only

  • Masking tape or double faced tape put on the surface with the sticky side up. Cats hate the feel and learn to stay away.
