Dear Barry,
Two of the dual glazed windows in my home have become foggy because of condensed moisture between the panes. I've considered replacing them with single pane glass, rather than dual glazing, because I don't want to have a recurrence of this problem. Does this seem like a practical idea? -- Fred
Dear Fred,
Replacing dual glazed windows with a single sheet of glass will eliminate the possibility of continued fogging, but in so doing, you will lose the intended benefits of dual pane windows. The air space between double pane windows provides insulation for your home, thereby reducing your heating bills. If you change to single pane glazing, you will forfeit this worthwhile advantage.
Replacement with new dual pane units would be advisable. Although recurrent leakage is a possibility, leaking dual pane windows are the exception, not the rule. The majority of dual pane units do not leak.
Finally, it would be wise to check with the manufacturer of your windows. They may still be covered by warranty.
