Replacing vs Refacing Bathroom Cabinets

by DoItYourself Staff

Both refacing bathroom cabinets and replacing them could be beneficial to you depending on your unique circumstances. Here are a few things to consider about replacing or refacing your bathroom cabinets.

Replacing

One option that you have to spruce up the look of your bathroom is to replace your cabinets. Between the two options, this is going to be the most expensive choice. If the only problem with your existing cabinets is the look of the outside finish, this may not be your best option. However, if there are structural problems with the cabinets, such as dents, holes, or broken doors, replacing might be the best option.

Refacing

The other option that you have is to simply re-face the outside of the cabinets. This is going to be an inexpensive and simple option for you. You will most likely need to sand down the finish of the outside of the cabinets. Then you are going to need to apply paint or some type of stain to them. Many people are surprised by the results that they can get by refacing the outside of their bathroom cabinets. However, in many cases, you will not be able to get that drastic change that many people are looking for unless you completely replace the cabinets.
