Weddings cost a lot of money today. Brides are constantly faced with plenty of dilemmas like splurging on the cost of food, spending lots of money on decorations, and yes, even the high cost of flowers.

If you’re flipping over the prices of those must-have flowers for your wedding, flip no more. There are plenty of ways to save money, and you wont have to sacrifice a couple of bridesmaids!

1. Call the local high school or college to see if they have a horticultural class or flower designing classes. Students can put their savvy talents into making beautiful arrangements for a small fee. The downside to this option is that you may not get exactly what you want, but the arrangements will still be beautiful.

2. Look into buying direct from flower wholesalers. Most flower wholesalers do sell directly to consumers, and for unbeatable prices. The only problem is that some of them require a minimum order, especially if they are located a considerable distance away from you.

3. Silk flowers are another alternative, and like real flowers, you can also purchase directly from a wholesaler and even a manufacturer. The great thing about silk flowers is that you can get a discount on bulk orders and have them mailed to your house. Lots of vendors can easily be found on the internet. And if you hear of a flower shop that is going out of business, call them!

4. If you need flowers for the actual ceremony and the reception, recycle. Choose design elements that can double. Placing flowers in vases, adding baby’s breath to arrangements, or removing ribbons change the look, and guests will never know.

5. Using more fillers such as ivy or baby’s breath is an option. Lots of lush greenery makes for a beautiful bouquet without sacrificing appeal.

6. Use silk, natural and artificial fillers along with real fresh flowers. Lots of brides opt to go this route because it’s cost efficient, giving them more to play with.

7. Choose flowers that are in season at the time of the wedding. Not only are in-season flowers usually easier to obtain, they are also less expensive and - the best part - beautifully in bloom.

8. Rent plants when in doubt. Lots of nurseries will rent plants, flowers, or arrangements. Some will even deliver! Call around in your area for prices.

9. Avoid holidays if possible. Roses, for example, are much more expensive on Valentine's Day than they are in late July. It’s often difficult to find an abundance of a particular type of flower on holidays.

10. If you really want to save, then splurge on your own bouquet and only give the bridesmaids a single flower to carry. It’s simple and beautiful, and everyone will notice your bouquet.

Don’t forget to dress down when dealing with florists because some of them will hike up the price if you appear to have some cash. Also it’s a good idea to check with small flower shops too. Sometimes a smaller business owner can give you a better price.

Ultimately, don’t settle. Shop around to find the flowers you want at the price you can afford. Enjoy your wedding, and don’t stress about the flowers!
