Sharpening the Blades in a Stainless Steel Blender
Sharpening stainless steel blender blades can be accomplished safely and quickly when following these steps. Before getting started, make sure you have a sharpening stone and your blender's owner manual handy.
Breakdown the Blender
Remove the blender jar from the base and unscrew the bottom of the blade assembly according to your manufacturer's instructions. Be careful not to grab the blades directly or let the fall a far distance, because you do not want to cut yourself or warp the blade configuration.
Sharpening Tips
Find the angles of the different cutting surfaces of the blades so that you can run them smoothly along the sharpening surface consistent with this angle. Go only with the angle, not back and forth. Spend at least 20-30 seconds on each angle to sharpen its edge. Spend equal time on each edge to keep the blades consistent.
Once you've completed the sharpening of the individual blade edges within the assembly, rinse it off before attaching it back to the bottom of the blender jar. Make sure that the assembly is secure in the bottom of the blender jar before operating, as precious smoothie will leak out of the bottom if it is not completely sealed.
Unlike knife-sharpening, renewing the blades of a blender does not require that you get the edges razor sharp, but simply that all the bumps are smoothed out and the blades maintain their original shape and configuration. Once this is done it should be happy blending for quite a while.
