Sharpen a Mower Blade

by DoItYourself Staff

what you'll need

  • Socket Wrench
  • Screwdriver

1. First remove the spark plug and then the blade from the mower.

2. Place removed blade into a vise. Grind the blade parallel to the original angle, removing as little metal as possible with the grinding stone.

3. Clean dirt and debris from the blade. A balanced blade will stay level when checked with a screwdriver inserted through the center hole.

4. To restore blade balance, remove some metal from the end of the blade. Do not grind more on the cutting edge.
